 Abba’s Style

His art is not abstract
His work is intentional
He creates with a purpose
Much like a pointillist
Each detail precisely placed
His hands make not one mistake
We are His masterpiece

Poetry. I took a half a poetry class at the beginning of 2020, before it got cut short by covid. I learned some poetry terms and had a lot of opportunity to write whatever I wanted. I could probably list a few of the poets I had learned about if you asked, but the biggest thing I learned about poetry is the freedom of it. You can basically write anything and call it poetry. How cool?!

A few weeks ago I kept having these thoughts that popped in my head about the Lord, so I would pull out my phone notes and jot them down. I think He told me to go back and expand on those thoughts through poetry. So I did. Poetry? Why? I didn’t know for a while, because honestly I’ve never greatly enjoyed poetry. It often seemed like a chore I needed to endure through various English classes. And sure enough the last credit I needed to graduate senior year was an English class, so I chose a poetry class that was said to have a fun teacher and an easy A. Well, although I am not planning on becoming a poet by profession, I think the Lord had a reason for putting me in that class and nudging me to write some poetry.

One of my prayers over myself for this season of life is, “to truly walk in the freedom I have been given”. I’m learning more and more what that looks like everyday. For example, I am able to learn more about Abba’s character and style every time I spend time with Him and His people. When I learn these things I GET to praise Him for who He is, HOWEVER I want! Recently, He has asked me to worship Him through poetry, an art of writing with no restrictions. He is letting me walk in that freedom. How intentional He is to put me in a poetry class back in January, to show me that poetry can be fun and free, eventually so that he could answer my prayer. A prayer that I didn’t even come up with until September.

It’s so cool He was working on me then, today, and already working on me for next year. Thanks God.

I have written a few other poems over the course of these few weeks, I am going to be posting one a week with a little explanation, so stay tuned!
